This living soil batch tests at 30.961% THCa with 32.989% total cannabinoids and 2.77% total terpenes, the highest in this release — and it is terpinolene-dominant at 1.08%, which is genuinely rare for White Widow and directly supports the sativa classification.

White Widow is a Sativa strain grown here in living soil. This batch tests at 30.961% THCa, 27.304% total THC, and 32.989% total cannabinoids, with Δ9-THC at 0.151% and Δ8-THC at 0.029%. Total CBD is 0.054%. The minor cannabinoid fraction is led by 1.392% CBGa, with CBCa 0.205%, THCVa 0.157%, CBDa 0.062%, CBG 0.021% and CBDVa 0.012%.
Total terpenes come in at 2.77% — the highest in this release — and the profile is unmistakably terpinolene-led: terpinolene at 1.08%, about 39% of everything measured. Behind it, a striking ocimene pair — cis-β-ocimene (0.39%) and ocimene (0.39%) — then β-myrcene (0.20%), trans-caryophyllene (0.18%), β-pinene (0.08%), α-pinene (0.06%), α-terpineol (0.06%), limonene (0.05%), α-phellandrene (0.05%), plus α-humulene, α-terpinene, linalool, δ-3-carene, menthol and γ-terpinene in the 0.03–0.04% range. That is sixteen measurable terpenes — an unusually complex panel.
Worth being straight about, because it is the best thing on this report: White Widow is normally reported as myrcene- and caryophyllene-dominant. This batch is neither. Terpinolene leads at nearly 40% of the profile, with 0.78% combined ocimene right behind it — a bright, fruity-floral, piney chemotype that most White Widow never shows. Terpinolene is the terpene most consistently associated with energetic, cerebral, daytime sativa character, and its presence here is exactly why the sativa classification holds up on this batch even though the original breeder describes White Widow as 60% indica. The lab report and the label agree, which does not always happen.

The nose is bright and unusual for White Widow: piney and fresh from the terpinolene, with a distinctly sweet, fruity-floral lift from the 0.78% combined ocimene — think mango blossom and green herb rather than the earthy, peppery cedar White Widow is usually described by. The classic spice is still there in the background from the trans-caryophyllene, but it is a base note, not the headline.
On the palate: crisp pine and citrus-herb up front, sweet tropical floral through the middle, a light peppery-woody spine, and a clean, faintly lavender finish from the α-terpineol. It smokes bright and lively rather than heavy — a very different experience from the woody, earthy White Widow of the 1990s Dutch seed lines.
Effects and Usage
White Widow is a Sativa in our lineup, and this batch's chemistry backs that firmly. Leafly's reported top effects are energetic, talkative, and creative, describing "a powerful burst of euphoria and energy" that stimulates conversation. Weedmaps describes a more layered arc — a relaxing haze that gives way to an explosive buzz.
Terpinolene at 39% of the profile is the strongest chemical argument for the energetic read: it is the signature terpene of classically stimulating sativas. Expect a fast, clear-headed lift with a social, creative edge and comparatively little body weight. Best for daytime, conversation, creative work, and getting things started — not for winding down.
Strain Background
White Widow emerged from Amsterdam in the mid-1990s and won the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup, the win that made it a global standard and put the entire "White" family on the map.
Its genetics are well agreed on: a Brazilian sativa landrace crossed with a resin-heavy South Indian indica — Green House Seeds, SeedFinder, Leafly, Weedmaps and Mr. Nice all report the same cross. Some sources suggest the Brazilian mother may have been Manga Rosa, though that is presented as speculation.
Its authorship is not agreed on at all, and three parties have made competing claims for thirty years:
- Shantibaba (Scott Blakey), who co-founded Green House Seed Co. in 1994, says he sourced the South Indian male himself in Kerala and made the cross. After splitting from Green House in 1998 he released the same line through Mr. Nice Seedbank as Black Widow, because Green House kept the White Widow name.
- Ingemar (De Sjamaan), a Dutch outdoor grower, says he bred the plant as early as 1987 under the name "Arnhem's Wonder" from seeds found in charas, stabilizing it over six years, and gave the genetics and the name to Arjan.
- Arjan Roskam of Green House backs Ingemar rather than Shantibaba, positioning himself as the one who bought the parents in 1992 and crossed them in 1994.
No documentary evidence settles it, and the reputable write-ups on the subject explicitly decline to adjudicate. We are not going to either. (One claim circulating on Arjan's behalf — that Arnhem's Wonder won a cup in 1989 — does not match the High Times Cannabis Cup record for that year, so treat it as an unverified assertion.)
On classification: Leafly calls White Widow 60% sativa; Green House Seeds' own spec sheet calls it 60% indica and indica-like in structure; SeedFinder notes two distinct phenotypes, one indica-dominant and one sativa-dominant. Both labels are defensible depending on the pheno. Our sativa call is supported by this batch's terpinolene dominance, not just by convention.
Note that 81 different breeders list a strain called White Widow on SeedFinder, and they are not all the same plant. Also note that the wider "White" family — The White, Great White Shark and similar — is named for trichome coverage, not shared White Widow genetics.
